TO GET STARTED WITH ZOOM
Zoom is a free app/online download. If you'd like to use your phone or tablet you can download the app through your Google Playstore or Apple App Store. If you're using your computer, visit https://zoom.us/signup. You'll need to have this app and / or be logged in in order to participate in the class. This allows everyone to see each other and the teacher will be able to answer any questions you have while also ensuring you are dancing safely and correctly. Assuming you're dancing in your bedroom, basement, living room, etc. we can't include things like across the floor or tumbling, but we'll be giving you a complete class. All dancers can take classes at their level or below, but may NOT take a class at a higher level, as we don't want you to practice incorrectly or hurt yourself.
TO JOIN THE CLASS
Simply click on the link to the class listed under "Today's Class Schedule". That link will log you right into the class (or waiting room if you're a few minutes early). If you are using the app, simply put in the Meeting ID and password if required to join the class. You can find the Zoom links, the Meeting ID, and passwords below.
WHAT TO WEAR
Ballet students levels A and up should wear leotard and tights or leggings. We need to see body lines clearly to offer corrections, especially when looking through the Zoom window. For all other classes, please wear fitted clothing - nothing super baggy or loose. Please NO short shorts and nothing that will obscure our view of your movement.
WHAT YOU NEED
Please have your dance space set up prior to the start of class.
Creative Movement / Tot / Kinder classes: Find any space that you can move around without too much around you. If the weather is nice, feel free to dance outside!
Ballet classes: Find something to use as a barre such as a wall, counter, or chair. Ballet barres are traditionally 42-44” off the ground. You can do ballet on carpet or hardwood / laminate, but make sure you won't kick anything.
Pointe classes: Should be done on a flat surface such as hardwood or linoleum. Be sure that it isn't too slippery in your Pointe shoes.
Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, and Hip Hop classes: Find a space that you can lay on the ground comfortably and move around without too much around you.
Tap Classes: If possible, find any floor in your house that isn't carpet. Laminate, hard wood, etc. work best. Tile is difficult and will be too slippery. Check and make sure that the tap screws are tight and that your tap shoes won't ruin your floor! If you don't have an appropriate surface or your tap shoes will damage your flooring, we recommend getting a piece of 3/4" plywood. If this isn't a possibility, take your class in flat-soled street shoes.
All of our classes have been modified to accommodate a smaller space than our traditional dance studio, so you should be able to take class in your bedroom, basement, family room, or kitchen. If you do dance in your bedroom, clean it while you're there! :)
Some teachers will be teaching in their homes and they have created a few really unique spaces as well, so it'll be a fun and different process for everyone.
